Terminology
So, for those who are new to the Untitled Sniperville Story V2, some of the terms might be extremely confusing and have you going “What the fuck?” to yourselves. Thus, this page, the Terminology page, will do what it can to help you get a better understanding of the Sniperville world.
Sniperville
A mysterious city in the middle of nowhere, Sniperville is a home to a great deal of criminals and others of dubious intent. The history of Sniperville is shrouded in mist, and it is unknown when or why it was created.
Death thrives in Sniperville; a common saying is in the city is that “Death tolls are high, but life insurance is even higher” and the life expectancy of the citizens is 31, give or take a few years. Children are taught form an early age on how to kill others and to defend themselves, and those who are weak of mind, body or will are not spared. Indeed, the majority of Sniperville turn a blind eye to the many deaths, as most of them are responsible for those very deaths. Few in Sniperville have or even remember their parents, and 94% of the population are orphans, were orphans, brought up in an orphanage or participated in the killing of orphans.
The Sniperville Orphanage is home to the majority of the youth of Sniperville. While many of them are in the orphanage because their parents are dead, some are there because they were abandoned by their parents. Run by a highly corrupt tyrant who uses the funding for his own personal needs, the inhabitants of Sniperville Orphanage live their lives in perpetual torment and pain. Not that it really bothers them. As the saying goes in Sniperville, “Shit happens”.
There is only one educational center in Sniperville, and that is the Sniperville Academy. All the youth of Sniperville attend Sniperville Academy in order to be prepared for life in Sniperville, and all are obligated to pass the 12th grade, while college-level education is optional. Teachers and students die regularly, and the deceased staff are replaced once a month. Few live to see graduation, and even fewer live through graduation, due to the extreme conditions of the school. Indeed, the only rule of the school is to survive; if a student survives one year, he or she then passes on to the next grade.
Sniperville is a land without law, and as such has no mayor or governor or figure of power to rule over them. Instead, the people of Sniperville have two codes that they follow.
- If you are alive, you are strong.
- If you are strong, you are right.
No matter what they do, or how they do it, it is in the end the survivor who is correct, while the deceased is wrong. This twisted sense of values has shaped Sniperville to be the way it is now, and for the most part, the citizens seem to be happy with the way it is run.
Resonance Soul
A Resonance Soul is a power, a special power, that is unique to the inhabitants of Sniperville. Each Resonance Soul is unique in its own right, and no two Resonance Souls are the same. There cannot be two of the same Resonance Souls in existence; just like there cannot be two people with the same souls. Only when a wielder of a certain Resonance Soul has died can another inherit it, and the new wielder must have been born AFTER the previous wielder passed away. As such, seeing the same Resonance Soul twice in a lifetime is a hard thing to do… or would be, if it wasn’t for the fact that people die in Sniperville all the time.
A Resonance Souls can be divided into five different categories – Head, Body, Arm, Leg, and Heart. Head-type Resonance Souls deal with mental powers, giving the user the ability to manipulate a certain concept, and can be considered the most complex of all Resonance Souls. Body-type Resonance Souls focus solely on defense, and allow the user to avoid or defend themselves from attacks in one way or another. Arm-type and Leg-type Resonance Souls, on the other hand, are purely offensive, and allow the users to deliver devastating attacks with the body part that the Resonance Soul corresponds to. Heart-type Resonance Souls are the rarest and most powerful of all Resonance Souls, and have few limits.
All Resonance Souls, save Heart-type ones, are capable of evolving into higher forms that drastically increase their powers. These are called Type-2 Resonance Souls, while the basic Resonance Souls are called Type-1 Resonance Souls. As they evolve, Resonance Souls change their titles; Head becomes Helmet, Body becomes Armor, Arm becomes Gauntlet and Leg becomes Greave. Type-2 Resonance Souls are free of the restrictions in their Type-1 forms. Armor-type Resonance Souls have the power of offense as well as defense, and Gauntlet-type Resonance Souls gain defensive abilities, as well as having their offensive powers increased.
How Resonance Souls manifest in their hosts is a mystery that has yet to be explained. Some are born with them, while others manage to bring them out in a moment of extreme emotions. The general consensus, however, is that all hosts are born with them at birth, but manifest them at different times. The reason for this is unknown, and perhaps shall remain so.
